hey guys, no shit that democrats are also accountable for police violence. even black dems have been known to be pretty impartial on this issue and you can see it from the mayor of minneapolis who hasn’t done much to ease tensions between the police and the protestors.
but you still need to vote democrat anyway.
we can not survive another four years of this presidency. there will be more deaths from police brutality, there will be more deaths from ice prison camps, there will be more deaths from serious health complications. there will be hatred, more negligence, more pain, more incompetence. there will still be a threat of our democracy falling into fascism, if it hasn’t already.
biden will not solve everything. hell, he’s not my first choice either. but it’s a start. everyone making these awful takes like “democrats won’t solve everything so don’t vote for them” will literally solve NOTHING. it will create divisions that put trump in office in the first place.
so please. if you don’t vote democrat or choose not to vote at all, you are actively choosing to let donald trump get another four years. easily.
please, still protest. please, still sign petitions and go to rallies and continue to fight for equality and justice. i am going to do the same. but don’t forget to vote him out this november.
hi this is the WORST take actually. I promise you that in the history of presidential elections, third party votes NEVER WORK. All it does is divide the parties (specifically, the Democratic Party because trump has a fairly solid base of loyal voters who, despite the atrocities he’s committed in office, will continue to blindly follow him.)
Voting third party only serves to divide parties; in this case specifically, as it was last election year, it serves to divide the Democratic Party.
Don’t be fooled this year. Voting democrat is the only realistic way to get trump out of office, and that in itself will be a huge feat while he is trying to establish a dictatorship.
Of course, we have so much more to change. We should keep protesting, keep shouting, keep forcing them to look at us. We have to help each other, but it’s easier to do that with Biden in office than Trump. I promise you.
TL;DR: while it’s important to keep protesting to enact change, remember that in November, voting third party won’t help anything. Please vote for Biden. Even though he’s not the best choice (or even a great choice), it’s still better for this country than another four years of trump.
The time to “send a message to the Democrats” is during the primary not the general, and guess what it worked, the message was sent and heard. Now we vote for Biden and keep paying attention and hold him accountable and let him know what the American people want. We need to get Biden elected president.
Protesting and voting are not mutually exclusive. Do both. Both work.
It’s not just that “both work”. In order for protesting to shame leaders into coming to the table, that leader must first be capable of shame. It is strategic for your movement to elect people who are interested at the very least in LOOKING like they’re doing the right thing.
In order for protesting to shame leaders into coming to the table, that leader must first be capable of shame.
You cannot build a third party success by focusing ONLY on the presidential race. You want a third party to develop power? Look into your LOCAL elections. Look to your councils, school boards, state legislature. Even make some pushes for your congress representatives. But this is not something where you can just go for the top level with no ground level work.
