Should our government remove all statues of Leopold II? Or should they add context and install signs that talk about our history in the Congo?

Doing nothing isn’t an option if you ask me.

Or more importantly: should our history teachers finally teach what actually happened? The only thing I remember being taught is that king Leopold II “colonized” the Congo. He was “on a mission”. No explanation what that meant, not a word about genocide, nothing about racism.

Or is that just me?

  25. kyraspem said: Remove the statues and put them for my part in a museum with explanation. If you put a statue in the public it glorifies whatever it stands for, in this case colonialism. Also, there needs to be done something about the fact that students barely get teached about the belgian colonial history. It should definitely come up earlier than the last year in secondary school, and I was lucky that I had a teacher that thoroughly explained what happened, but he is an exception
